OPENING HOURS & PRICES Open September to April 10.00 am to 5.00 pm If you would like a guided tour it is best to phone ahead. However, you may also walk around independently. There is a printed guide for you to follow if you wish. The entry charge is $8/person. Children accompanied by parents are free. Perennials for sale $4 each. |
GROUP VISITS We welcome both small and large groups. Large buses can turn at the top of our drive. Group visits should be booked in advance. We also ask organisers to pay the admission charge with a single cheque or cash for the group. We provide a guided tour of the garden and talk about the house. Some groups e.g. Probus and garden groups bring morning or afternoon tea/coffee with them. We are happy to provide hot water and the use of our patio. Other groups choose to make arrangements with cafes in Carterton or Clareville. |
GUIDED TOURS The tour of the garden includes a walk through our parkland, with a commentary on the various trees, a circuit of the lake with its bank plantings, then back into the inner garden where we talk a little about the house and its association with the Daysh family. We then move past the rockery and through the four large perennial beds where we talk about the various plantings. We welcome discussion with other gardeners! From here we reach the northern boundary of the garden where there are mixed plantings of native trees and shrubs. We then move back into the rose garden and out onto the main lawn where we talk about the shrubs along the western border. Those who wish may then explore our 'bush walk' of young native trees and shrubs. |

DISABLED ACCESS Our garden is generally flat so it is possible to use a wheel chair. There is a slight rise to the promenade around one end and far side of the lake, but there are good views from the near side which is flat. There are steps to the lower levels of the area planted with native trees and shrubs. |
